When to shoot in Mexico City: a Q4 2026 production calendar

For a production coming in from the US or Europe, Q4 in Mexico City has a simple shape: the weather improves just as the calendar gets crowded. The rains usually end in October, and the same weeks bring Day of the Dead, a Formula 1 weekend, a national sales event and, in December, a pilgrimage the city government put at about 13 million people in 2025. This is the calendar we plan against, checked for 2026.

When does the rainy season end in Mexico City?

Mexico's National Meteorological Service (SMN) places the rainy season for most of the country between May and October, and its 2026 outlook called for above-average rain in September and October, as Uno TV reported on August 26, 2026.

In practice: if you shoot exteriors in October, carry a cover set you can move to the same day and put the exteriors early in the schedule. There is no single date when the rains stop, but by November the season is usually over, which is why we suggest November and the first half of December to clients whose scripts live outdoors.

Which Q4 2026 dates close streets in Mexico City?

Mexico City's tourism ministry has published its official Day of the Dead 2026 guide, and most of the large events sit on Paseo de la Reforma and in the historic center. Add the national calendar and the fall looks like this:

• 01Saturday, October 17: Monumental Alebrije Parade, from the Zócalo to Paseo de la Reforma.
• 02October 18 to November 1: Cempasúchil Flower Festival on Paseo de la Reforma, between the Angel of Independence and the Ahuehuete.
• 03October 23 to November 8: an illuminated route from the Angel of Independence to the Puerta de los Leones in Chapultepec.
• 04Sunday, October 25: the Mega Procession of the Catrinas on Paseo de la Reforma.
• 05October 29 to November 2: the monumental ofrenda in the Zócalo.
• 06October 30 to November 1: Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
• 07Saturday, October 31, 2 p.m.: the Great Day of the Dead Parade, from Paseo de la Reforma to the Zócalo. (An early edition ran on June 13 for the World Cup.)
• 08November 13 to 17: El Buen Fin, Mexico's national sales event, with Monday, November 16 as a statutory holiday.
• 09December 11 and 12: the pilgrimage to the Basilica of Guadalupe. In 2025 the city government reported about 13 million pilgrims, and the peak closures, from the morning of December 11 to the afternoon of the 12th, included Calzada de Guadalupe and Calzada de los Misterios.
• 10December 25 and January 1: public holidays in Mexico. We keep critical shoot days off those dates unless the schedule forces it.

None of this makes Mexico City hard to shoot in the fall. It means the location scout and the call sheet have to know the calendar: Reforma and the historic center need a different plan in late October, and the weekend of October 30 to November 1 stacks the Grand Prix and the parade.

How do the US and European clock changes affect calls with Mexico City?

Mexico City does not change its clocks. Mexico dropped daylight saving time in 2022, outside some municipalities on the northern border, so Mexico City stays on UTC−6 all year. You are the ones who move.

Europe changes first, on Sunday, October 25, 2026; the US follows on Sunday, November 1, per NIST. Counting a 9-to-6 day in Mexico City against a 9-to-5 day on your side, this is what shifts:

• 01New York and Miami: one hour ahead of Mexico City instead of two. Shared working hours go from about six to about seven.
• 02Dallas, Houston and Chicago: the same clock as Mexico City instead of one hour ahead. The full working day overlaps.
• 03Los Angeles: two hours behind instead of one. Shared hours drop from the full day to about seven.
• 04Madrid and Paris: seven hours ahead instead of eight. A 9 a.m. call in Mexico City lands at 4 p.m. in Madrid instead of 5 p.m., which opens a one-hour window before a 5 p.m. close in Europe, where before there was none.

The week in between, October 25 to 31, is the one that breaks calendar invites: Europe has already changed and the US has not. On the US side, the new arrangement holds until clocks spring forward again on the second Sunday of March, which falls on March 14, 2027.

How late can you shoot for a holiday or Q1 2027 campaign?

An advertising spot takes us 3 to 6 weeks from brief to delivery; a corporate video, 2 to 4. Count back from the date the material has to be approved, not from the air date, and leave a week for trafficking and platform checks:

• 01US Thanksgiving and Black Friday (Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26; Black Friday, November 27): for material approved by Friday, November 20, the brief has to close between October 9 and October 30.
• 02Christmas campaigns airing from Tuesday, December 1: material approved by Tuesday, November 24 means a brief closed between October 13 and November 3.
• 03Mexico's Buen Fin (November 13 to 17): with material approved on November 6, the brief should close by October 16 at the latest.
• 04Q1 2027 launches: the comfortable route is to brief in November and shoot before December 12. A brief closed in the second week of January still delivers by late February on a six-week schedule.

Between December 12 and January 6, the stretch Mexicans call Guadalupe–Reyes, shooting is possible, but in our experience approvals slow down on both sides of the border and two statutory holidays sit in the middle. We would not put a critical shoot there unless the date forces it.
